The South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council #6203 have been hard at work with one of their biggest fundraisers of the year - the Fall Mums Sale.
This fundraiser was started 17 years ago by Gerry Butrico and this year $2,200 was raised which goes to the Knights Charity and Scholarship Fund. One of the Knights of Columbus's principles is Charity; this Charity fund is used to support local residents who have charitable needs, over the past 17 years over $70,000 have been raised.
In just 3 days the Knights sold 250 small and 128 large mums. Chairmen of the Mums Drive Gerry Butrico and "Mr. Salesman" Joe Scrudato sold 128 Large mums in just 1 day to local businesses and individuals.
The Knights really need to thank these businesses and individuals who have supported this Mums Sale for many years. These businesses and individuals know buying these mums is about supporting less fortunate people in South Plainfield: Andy and Andrew Pinto from Pinto Brothers, Walter from KC's Corner, Jeff from Nischwitz, David from Peter Pan Pharmacy, Bob Stillo from Stillo Paving, Bill Butrico from Lehigh Utility, Phyllis from Grant Ave, KLK Trucking, Charlie and Debbie from Home Town Heros, Amir from Park Ave Barber, Henry from Witty's, Nancy from the Observer, Tom Lanza, Kelli from Bosticks Auto Body, Sandi Cassio and Tom Cassio from Twin City Pharmacy, Sal from Sal's Liquors, Shannon from Columbia Bank, Rob Bengivenga Jr, Boss Hogs Barbecue, Jeff from Good Time Auto, Russell from Mr. Subs, Rich from Presto Printing, Pat DeSantis, Carl from R&C Autobody (who donated all of his mums to Our Lady Of Czestochowa Church), Joey Lemmo (who donated all of his mums to Sacred Heart Church), Ed Santoro, Frank Licato, Glenn DelaSalla, Jack Strassburger, Glenn Scrudato, Bill Amirault, Robbi Matusz, Kevin Keane, Bob Longo, Anthony Wargacki, Debbie Boyle, Phil Basista, and last but not least Bill and Kelly Butrico.
Special thanks to Jim Gustafson and Ricky McCrisken from McCrisken's Gustafson Funeral Home and the Borough of South Plainfield for purchasing numerous small mums that were planted around town.
The Knights could not have succeeded this year without the help of the following Knights who volunteered: Adam Butrico, Jack Scrudato, Steve Belanger, Steve Turrise, Rich D'urso and Rob Didario.
Lastly the Knights thank all Brother Knights, their families and all South Plainfield residents who bought mums and always support our Mums Sale year after year.
If anyone would like to be added to our sales list for next year, please contact Gerry Butrico at 908-346-0320.
As The Knights couldn't do any in-person selling this year because of COVID, the Knights would like to show a great picture from the past when these 3 young girls all of Knights members helped sell mums - Left to right Alyssa Scrudato, Joelle Butrico and Rachel Alexa.
